Call for Papers

The call for papers is closed.

Participants were invited to either give an about ten minutes long presentation of a paper or to report briefly from their professional experience leading to a group discussion.

 

Papers - Formal Requirements:

Paper submissions shall not exceed 750 words and should be written in an accessible style. An abstract of maximum 250 words is required. The submission deadline for proposals is 31 March 2010. Submissions should be provided electronically, in PDF, to: workinggroup@unstudies.org

We are aiming to publish a series of papers in an edited volume of workshops contributions and findings. There will also be the opportunity to publish papers in the new Journal of International Organization Studies or by TermNet Publisher.


Contributions were suggested to focus on the following theoretical and practical questions:


Diversity management and UN peace operations

  • The challenges, chances, influence of diversity in UN peace operations: Which tools and best practices can be applied to unleash the positive value of cultural diversity?

  • How to raise cross-cultural competences in the peacekeeping troops?

  • Recruitment and promotion in the UN system. How to achieve equitable representation of member states at decision-making level and in field operations?

  • Intercultural management in UN peace operations. How to find a common language?

  • How to connect the UN expert community on a global scale? Needs, facilities, gaps

Connecting the UN community

  • Building a common ground: What must be done in order to encourage the exchange of information and developments in the theory and practice of UN studies?

  • How to define, develop, measure cross-cultural competences
